##  Data Recovery from a Toshiba External Hard Drive

The Toshiba external hard drive served as additional storage for several years before it spontaneously failed. However, with external drives, it is impossible to completely rule out the possibility that an accidental drop or impact may have contributed to the issue. Fortunately, there was no evidence of extensive mechanical damage to the read heads or data platters, and the disk could be partially initialized. However, the data was only partially accessible, so it was essential to choose the correct procedure from the very beginning.

In case of failure, it is always better to modify the drive, bypass the USB interface, and access the drive through its native SATA interface. This allows for better control over the data recovery process and easier access to the disk's service data.

We backed up the disk's service data and made the necessary modifications. This allowed us to initiate the project in a way that provided comprehensive control over the entire process. If issues were encountered while reading the data, it was possible to skip some damaged sections in the initial phase and address them later.

A partial binary copy of the entire medium was successfully created, but some parts contained errors or were entirely missing. The next step in the recovery process for this Toshiba drive was to replace the read heads. The Toshiba MQ04UBD200 hard drive has two data platters and four read heads. If one or more read heads fail completely or partially, it can result in the loss of a large amount of data or even all stored data. Work inside the hard drive must always be performed by a specialist in hard drive data recovery. Home attempts made by some users often lead to irreversible media damage. Fortunately, this Toshiba disk was handled properly.

**Capacity:** 2 TB
**Problem:** probable spontaneous failure, possible drop, data inaccessible
**Solution:** modification of drive electronics, adjustment of service data, work on read heads and other disk components
**Result:** 98% of data successfully recovered

Data recovery from the Toshiba disk was highly successful. This case is one of many that had a positive outcome. However, the entire process typically costs the client not only money but also stress. Regular backups of important data can save a lot of trouble.
