If your laptop (or any other device) got stolen, even a very strong password might not protect your data. The experienced thief can handle it quickly and if you do not use disk encryption (Bitlocker, Filevault ...), he easily gets at all your sensitive data.
A possible solution consists in storing data in a secure private cloud service. This way, data will never be stored directly on your laptop's hard drive. If your device ever gets stolen, you can immediately bar access to the cloud storage.
You might say that this is unnecessary and you are not concerned. However keep in mind that your device can be lost almost anytime, anywhere. This will save you a lot of time, trouble and, in case of a device failure, also money for data recovery.
